FROM CUBA

Chucho Valdés Quartet featuring Joe Lovano

Wednesday, April 16, 2003
8 pm, Campbell Hall

“Sweeter than sugar, more satisfying than a cigar, Valdés might be Cuba’s most valuable export.”
—Los Angeles Times

Pianist, composer, bandleader, educator and president of the Havana Jazz Festival, Chucho Valdés possesses a rare gift for combining Cuban, Caribbean and American jazz. Along with Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D’Rivera, he founded the groundbreaking, Grammy Award-winning ensemble Irakere. Valdés will perform the United States premiere of a work co-commissioned by UCSB Arts & Lectures that features special guest saxophone great Joe Lovano. Stay after the performance for a Meet-the-Artists discussion.

$40, 35 / UCSB Students $19, 16
