“Amazing as his voice is on record,
it’s twice as amazing live, and up close.”
—Village Voice
Rolling Stone calls Youssou N’Dour “a singer with a voice so extraordinary that the history of Africa seems locked inside it.” A pioneer of mbalax, an enchanting blend of Senegal’s traditional percussion and griot singing with Afro-Cuban and indigenous dance flavors, N’Dour gained fame in the U.S. for his soaring vocals on Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.” His live performances with his 10-member band Le Super Étoile are renowned for their pure kinetic joy.
