Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Wednesday, October 15
8 pm, Campbell Hall

“Amazing—serious, intricate, droll, eerie, precisely
rehearsed and very beautiful”

—Village Voice

For over 30 years this 10-man Zulu a cappella group, which gained worldwide acclaim on Paul Simon’s Graceland, has thrilled and moved audiences with the music and spirit of South Africa. Noted for its dense, bass-heavy harmonies, influenced by American gospel and church music, Ladysmith Black Mambazo also dances electrifying, detailed choreographic patterns. Led by the sweet-voiced Joseph Shabala, Mambazo were honored performers at President Nelson Mandela’s inauguration in May 1994.
